The largest island of the Cyclades, Naxos is a great choice for those who want to enjoy kilometers of paths in a place that still maintains a low profile and development offers interesting surprises: vast sandy beaches, forests of cedars in south coast, wild and beautiful scenery on the east coast, Venetian castles, Byzantine churches and meticulously archaeological sites inland. The town, with its monumental ancient gate Portara on the edge of the harbor, the coast road with taverns and medieval settlement of the castle that crowns the hill, is the first image arriving in Naxos by ferry from Piraeus. Driving from here to the western coastline unfolds the most touristic part of the island in Cody beach resorts of Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna, and below, the favorite beach of surfers Plaka. The safari inland definitely includes stops at well-preserved tower monastery Bazeos the plain of Agiasos, the old commercial capital Halki in authentic traditional mountainous village Apiranthos, Sanctuary of Demeter in Gyroula and of course the famous marble Kouros that << sleep >> the Naxos countryside in Flerio and above the fishing village of Apollonas.
Apart from the summer holidays, it is worth the visit and the period of Carnival so revive traditional customs ribbon in Engares villages Melanes, Galini, Kinidaros and Agios Arsenios and Koudounati in Apeiranthos.
